Just wondering what your guys thoughts are on all the hype of AJAX web development? For something that is basically a combination of already mature development methods, it sure seems to be getting a lot of praise. I personally like it due to the fact that you can re-load certain things on a web page without refreshing the entire page. I think that AJAX and other new methods will change the way we, as developers, view the limitations of web development.
My concerns are with indexing of AJAX sites by search engines and how having all javascript links will affect the SERP's. What do you guys think?

I agree with most of those articles concerns, but one I also have that I did not see in that article is having to have javascript enabled to even use the sites functionality. This turns into a situation where the page will need to check if the user has javascript enabled and redirect to another entirely parallel site if they do not. Somewhat like having a hifi and lowfi site for flash sites for slow bandwidth users.

there's a real trend to name software products after household cleaning agents. we already have vim and ajax. what's next? an operating system called "fairy liquid"?

Vim is a household cleaning product? Never heard of it. Well, not until now anyway. In doing some digging on the Vim website I see they have a list of other products with the name Vim:

I'm not yet convinced that Vim was named after any one of those products. I couldn't find anything about how the name was decided other than it's combination of "vi" and "improved". I'm sure it's possible that a product has some influence though, would be interesting to find some more history on this. Heh heh, I espeicially like this one:

I am not sure why they call it AJAX because most people who use the AJAX method do not use XML so the X part of AJAX does not fit. When I use it, I usually just use some dynamic html generated from the background app.
I guess AJAX sounds better than AJAD or AJAH.

i know this is totally non-politically-correct, but AJAD sounds like some sort of fundamentalist religious attitude to adopt towards infidels.
i will nev er get tired of cruel paperclip parodies by the way, this one is almost better than windows RG!
re: vim, i am sure we have had this discussion before years ago!

Heh heh, I was thinking the same thing. Reminds me of JIHAD. :)
