How did "compiz" become named "compiz", what does it mean, and how do you pronounce it? Do you think this has anything to do with the deal Microsoft and Novell just made?

it's a composite manager... or a 'compizite manager' if you want :)
You pronounce it in fake slang, trying to make it sound as careless as possible, so that it sounds natural that you lack a few of the ending sounds...

Because geeks are so often connected with coffee... and the more posts you make, the more coffee you had to consume in order to stay up that long.

... and even though you might not think so, we at Ubuntu _are_ geeks. Really. :)

(geek != techie)

Yeah but the2 female models who pose for the calenders are HAWT!

back to topic....

Is that the reason, or is it just being funny. I find that oddly believable in a "What the **** should we name this one" kind of way....

Compiz, I think, comes from the words "come" and "play", which were then snoopified into complizle. Once it was corporation-ized it lost it's fun, or the playful part of it, and became yet another double speak marketese term. Compiz: To take the fun out of everything.

Note: I just looked up what compiz is (thanks wikipedia). I was way off.
