WiFi is a killer?

Postby Calum » Wed May 30, 2007 3:21 am

Hi there, I have heard a lot recently about how several countries have quite stringent restrictions on WiFi deployment to public institutions such as schools on the basis that WiFi nodes cause a high degree of potentially harmful radiation. This concerns me since there's a WiFi router (a DV4210-WU one) within nine feet of my desk at work. I would rather not risk getting cancer, regardless of the rights and wrongs of the issue. Do any of you know anything about this? There's no restriction on WiFi in the UK, on the basis that noone has got round to collating any evidence on the WiFi/cancer subject (i think), but like i say, i would rather this not turn out to be like the radium thing, where they all got radiation poisoning and had to fight for years for compensation.

Anyway, here are links galore, none of them really seem to say anything concrete. If i am worried about the possibility of getting cancer from this WiFi router at work, what should i do, and should i be worried in the first place?

None of them say anything concrete becuase at this point, there isn't.
There hasn't even been a conclusive scientific study into the effects of Mobile Phones.

I guess you are entitled to wory, but until somone can tell us one way or the other what the effects are then there is not much you can do. The way I see it I live in a world of EM radiation from all sorts of sources. Many of these will be at a higher power level than WiFi so I am not going to make my life more difficult by avoiding the technology.

One thing I do avoid is putting my head up to the microwave. I do this because they are designed to heat water, they do leak, and therefore I don't wan't to give my brain any undue cooking. :-)

Heh heh, I sit within inches of my wireless card in my laptop and just a few feet from my closest WRT. I have seen various stories on this and on cell phones and in every case so far I have seen them sufficiently debunked for me not to be too concerned about it. Then again I have already had all the children I am going to have so I am not worried about going steril and I thought radiation was supposed to treat cancer, not cause it (I know, different kind of radiation). At any rate, I guess at this point you have to make up your own mind if you are concerned about it and do what you think is right.
