Are you looking for minipci, PCMCIA, USB or what sort of wireless NIC? My personal favorites are the Linksys WPC55AG PCMCIA cards with the Atheros chipset using the madwifi drivers (it's what I'm typing over right now). I also have a Compaq and an HP laptop with Broadcom BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] chips. I have to use the ndiswrapper with the XP driver to get those to work but they do seem to work ok. Of course for the router side there is nothing better than a Linksys WRT54GL (or if you can still find an older revision of the WRT54G or WRT54GS) running OpenWrt.
