Hmm.
books I actually paid for (sic) AND that I still use, as and when required!
eg. 1987 "UNIX System V Bible" by The Waite Group
really enjoyed most of the so-called "Bibles" ! (Still use them)
Then 'course (ice9!) the "In a Nutshell" books by Q'Reilly
still consult "Linux in a nutshell" as the need arise.
Also enjoyed (and used) the "teach yourself" books by SAMS
eg. "Teach Yourself JAVA 2" in 21 days !?! -
helped to at least understand the underlying ideas
That was Circa '99 - I am Not a Java fan (not then and not now)
Books - to me! - are only a stepping stone,
the rest is pure mental effort and sweat.
eg. The no. of Oracle books available are beyond belief - it's nearly
impossible to read the lot. So pick one, then you have to WORK at
understanding and using the engine!
I reckon books are personal - buy one (a good one) and use
it for a long time.
So! Not so much a forum, as maybe a compendium of (good)
books to read or a place to list books that is worth having around.
PS! Lest we all forget - forums! such as this! are very, very help full.
Get the book - and when stuck - check the forums!!
