Uptime??

Well Ive been observing your uptime void main and something still isnt right. Using nmap, I recieved these results with nmap -p 80 -P0 -O voidmain.is-a-geek.net

Remote OS guesses: Linux 2.4.19-pre4 on Alpha, Linux Kernel 2.4.3 SMP (RedHat )
Uptime 27.269 days (since Sat Feb 22 07:57:10 2003)

Is this your actual uptime, or are you still having trouble with the new kernel? Also I looked on netcraft, and it has not yet passed the 497 day barrier for linux even though your faked uptime is well over 500 days. Do you think netcraft has some sort of rules set up that prevent linux boxes from getting over this limit, or is this still a problem that has to do with the new kernel?

The local system believes it has 574 days of uptime, but externally the 2.5.6x+ kernels will never report more than 49.7 days of uptime as that is when the tcp timestamp variable will wrap. Nobody on the kernel list seems to care about it (don't know if they know about it). I didn't want to join the kernel mailing list just to post this issue, maybe you would be willing to do it? :) I did post a couple of comments on http://linuxtoday.com under Linus's kernel release posts but no one gave hoot there either. Oh well, looks like Linux will never show up on Netcraft as one the top uptimes.

Here's a thread where I give some more details. If you use a 2.4 kernel or below you can get up to 497 days, 2.5+ 49.7 days max. It's a shame because I believe it would be an easy fix for a real kernel hacker.

Here's my uptime hack: http://voidmain.is-a-geek.net/files/uptime/ for cheating, er testing...
