X resolution

I just upgraded every package on my machine and now when i start X it has a resolution of 1024X1200 instead of 1200X1600. I check the config file and its exactly the same as it used to be with it set to 1200X1600. Where the hell could X be getting its settings from????

and you're sure you're looking in the right config file? (i ask because lycoris (and most likely others) includes a mess of XF86Config files in differnt subdirs of /etc) and that you're looking in the right bit depth?

i'm sorry to sound so patronising, that's the best i can do...

If you can't find a cleaner solution just take out all resolutions other than 1600x1200 in the modes section
of XF86Config.

well... i bet that if i ran xf86config it will put it in the right file for me. But i am gonna do a re-install of slackware 9.0 because quite a few things have gotten messed up by just upgrading the packages, and i think it will be easier if i just install from the CD.

I found out what was wrong by lookin at the log.
well... i guess i configured my monitor wrong because i dont know anything about it other than its 21" NEC MultiSync XP21 and has done 1200X1600 before in linux.

any ideas how i should try to set this up to get at least 1200X1600 resolution?

err..... i followed those direction and set it to the precise sync ranges and it gives me the same sort of errors in the log and goes to 1280X1024

You are specifying 1600x1200 and not 1200x1600 right? In your previous messages you mention 1200x1600 mode which is not a valid mode on any monitor I am aware of.
