Bullgoose!
Glad to hear I helped bring another person away from the forces of darkness
I've been doing what I can here at the College to win converts... I now have three of my students regularly attending the SyrLUG meetings and have already installed Linux two of their computers. I even have a faculty member attending and he demanded that IT allow him to use Linux in his office here. He's a math professor and told them that he needed a real OS to do his work and couldn't waste his time playing around with a "broken, toy OS." I set up a little RH8 box in my office (4 damned computers in here now... it's getting a bit crowded) and force my students to at least work with the Linux GUI, but quite a few are interested in learning the command line as well. I still haven't been able to convince a single one that vi is a better editor than notepad though. Maybe next year.
Both my daughters are running Linux now too. My youngest even asked me to wipe WinXP off her new machine and forget about dual booting. She says that it's nothing but a waste of space. I just worry that she might need it sometime in her college career, and with twin 40 GB hard drives I think that she can afford to waste some space.
If you need a hand converting your shop, let me know. As long as your boss has no objections, I'll give you a hand. I'm sure that Eliot would be more than willing to put in a few evenings for "the cause" too. Given your work schedule and mine, timing shouldn't be a problem. And, now that winter is over, we got to get together and play with our toys.
Let me know when!
Jim
