hi estranged :)

I'm a gentoo man myself but use slack on less powerful machines when I don't have 2 weeks to dedicate to compiles (I setup a server with slack a couple weeks ago)

BTW: a gentoo forum would be nice here, I've got a bunch of experience with it and I personally think that it is the best distro out there (worth it for other ppl to try)

Chances are I will put Gentoo in it. I have ISO and all the documentation and am ready to go.

Yep. Its an Athlon 900 (not as fast as my main rig) so I want to set it up as a router and then take it from there and play with both machines by playing with s Apache (Apache is not that hard to do the basic setup) an FTP server ( i know its not the most secure thing), Samba which i am lost in space about that and what ever else I find you can do with Linux.

You got it! And I also sorted the Linux lists in alphabetical order so as not to show preference.

just PM your AIM handle (I can't get at it in the profile) and I'll give you a hand

I know how to set up routing and maybe apache but I haven't done an FTP server yet so I'm in the dark for that

BTW: Thanks Void Main

No problem shira :D

I just need some help with routing so the machines will play together, after that, the rest is just a matter of reading and taking it easy.

My AIM handle is ELLHNAS25

Heh heh, that would be a mighty small mailing list. I would have a hard time convincing even family members to get on that one. :)
