Good Morning Viet Nam!

they showed Good Morning Viet Nam on BBC1 last night and i hadn't seen it before, just posting to say it's a very good film. Robin Williams is an excellent standup comedian but he sucks ass in comedy films. He was great in Mork and Mindy but i really think his best films by far are the ones where he plays "serious" roles. Awakenings is of course the other one i'm thinking of, and that one where he's a psychologist. Good Morning Viet Nam gives him a good role because he plays a serious character in a serious situation but his character has a sense of humour.

I think i heard somewhere that it's based on a true story, but a couple of the bits in the film i thought were a bit too unbelievable. Kind of odd how this "comedy/drama" film did actually remind me a lot of the "horror/action" film "Full Metal Jacket". I mean obviously they have the same subject matter more or less, but still, they were more similar than i might have thought in their "feel".

both films have excellent soundtracks too.

i know this has nothing to do with linux, but it's the lounge, and i think people here probably watch films so you know...

Yeh I saw it too, also for the first time. I didn't really find it similar to Full Metal Jacket but closer to the Oliver Stone Vietnam film (the one that isnt apocalypse now) they aren'r really similar actually, but both give an insight into the soldiers perspectives and objections to the war.
It was also I agree a cracking performance by Robin Williams, whoever wrote the bits of dialogue between his and his officers was/is a verry funny man/woman, maybe it was even RW himself. I loved his toying with them, especially the final bit where he gets sent home.

ahh, Robin Williams. I watched One Hour Photo recently and it was a strange experience. I mean, seeing Robin Williams play this total nutcase in a rather twisted film was too much. I only saw it once, i think i should watch it again before i begin to say anything about it. Wierd movie though. I haven't seen good morning viet nam, but have heard all about it. Seems like one of those movies you "have to see".

I agree, Good morning Viet Nam it is a good film, but, IMO, the best "Viet Nam film" it is by far "Apocalypse Now".

I prefer comedys, the best stand up is Eddie Murphys Delerious, which got him banned from comedy for 10 years.

Im a big fan of Greg Fleet and afew others.

However my favorite movie would have to be some of the Marx Brothers ones, which are very old and I cant remember the names. They are very musical and bloody hilarious.

The best movie of all time is Star Wars Episode 5 and you all know it!

Another great movie I seen recently was Phone Booth.
