midi to Ogg (or MP3)

since i cannot play midi files, I was wondering if there is anyway to oconvert one to Ogg or MP3. Now for the trick, is there any way to do it without having to play the midi. I searched on google and there is ways to do it with timidity or kmid but i have to be able to play the file.

You whould be able to play these midi's with timidity++ becuase it doesnt even use the soundcards wavetable it just uses its own crazy software stuff and plays through /dev/dsp.

Also, what ALSA drivers are you using because I have never had a problem with slack and midi and alsa.
I use the 0.9.8 drivers shipped with kernel 2.6.0-test>8
