Linux at my high school

heh, this morning i started downloading all 3 discs of Fedora at school with the teachers encouragement! For a project in class we have to setup a network, well were talking about Linux being easier (even though im the only one who uses it at home in my group) and the teacher overheard and said go for it. So we're going to setup 4 computers, two with Microsoft Windows 98 and two with Fedora. It should be good. And fairly easy. They're pretty old computers and i do hope that the drivers come with Linux... we might have to spend all our time finding the windows drivers. Oh, and its going to have at least one of the computers wirelessly networked for bonus marks. And we're going to get Bonus marks for using Linux.

The only thing i am worried about is if i can get drivers (for linux) for a lucent wireless modem of some sort that we are going to try to use. The last group to do this project couldnt get it to work in Microsoft Windows 98.

Lucent Wireless modem? Any more info on this thing? I guess we are not talking normal wireless networking here then huh?

i havent gotten to look at the wireless anymore then a glance. I plan to look after i get the rest of it working since it is only for bonus marks

yah my skool currently has 4 linux comps set up. 3 slackware in my programming class and a gento box for a counter-strike server. The only one i didnt set up was the gento box. For my programming class we are about to start on clustering the boxes and righting a program for parrallel processing. But MoR find out what type of wireless u will be usin and i could maybe help out with it some.

All the computers use Linux Based Novell Zenworks Imaging stuff at my (now old) school.

I used this to boot a prompt on the computers (as in bash) and change the IP address to the same one the Windows NT based fileserver uses, of course Windows is wussy so it just gave up and stoped its networking stuff.

I did this a few times, until the found the MAC address, and seen that I was on the machine that was the problem, and some other kid.

They found the other kid wouldnt know a computer from his own arsehole, so I was blamed.

Basically, they kicked me out of IT, and off the computers, which nearly all the classes use, which made me fail this year at highschool.
