I find it humorous that there are fewer Microsoft web servers out there today than there were back in late 1997, yet there are twice as many Apache instances out there than there were back in late 1997. Even back then there were twice as many Apache servers than Microsoft web servers.

I wonder who might have funded this study

which indicates that Microsoft servers outnumber Apache servers on the top 1000 web sites.

Why don't they just give up and admit that better technology has beaten them.

eweek is a Microsoft centric site. Even so, I think a more interesting little nugget is a poll on the right side of that page. The question and answers are:

If Longhorn really doesn't debut until 2006, will you:

Wait
Switch to Mac OS
Switch to Linux desktop
One word: Citrix

The current results are:

36.20% Wait
19.76% Switch to Mac OS
39.04% Switch to Linux desktop

So, only 36% of Microsofties will wait. 40% of them will switch to Linux. 60% of them will switch to something other than Microsoft. That's quite a telling stat considering the site that it's on. I have a feeling that many of those are going to switch regardless if Longhorn comes out on time or not.
