First, let me say that I just found the voidmain site while looking for some linux tips, and I have been impressed by Void Man, and the community of posters on this board. You guys have all given me some ideas as I learn more about the linux world.

Hey Void Man, what is that on screen monitoring program that can be seen in the screenshots of the box called kidslinux? It looks like some variation of the System Monitor, but i cannot seem to find the program on the net (it does not help that I do not know what terms to use...). Could we get the name of that program?

It is gkrellm, with some skin which Void can tell you the name of.

Wow, those are old screen shots. :) Yes, Tux is right that it is gkrellm (www.gkrellm.net). I don't know what distro you have installed but if it is Fedora and have apt installed via my apt tip you can install it that way (or using the Synaptic graphical interface). I'm sure it is also installable via apt in Debian. If there isn't a package prebuilt for your distro you can get the source from the link I posted above and install it according to their directions. Let me know if you need help.

Very Cool. I followed your apt tip, and was able to get the gkrellm program installed on both my RH9 (home) and my Fedora1 (work) boxes. It makes monitoring my system much easier, and it looks good while works.

Did you also install the gkrellm server on the remote machine? It's a little faster to use the client/server gkrellm than it is to run the gkrellm client on the remote machine and have it displayed locally via X.
