laptop suggestions

i'm considering buying a new laptop and wanted to know any suggestions anyone has .. want to keep it under 4 or 5 pounds if possible and preferrable amd64 cpu .. if i can't find one with both would rather keep it light .. any suggestions or opionons? would be running Suse

I have run Linux on many Dell laptops and currently use an IBM Thinkpad as my primary machine. Of course I didn't purchase any of these out of my own pocket and if I were I don't know that I would have chosen those. I would have chosen one that didn't require me to purchase a Windows license when I bought it (even if it cost more). I would have purchased one that proudly lists itself as supporting Linux.

I don't know anything about the company but there is a banner ad at the top of the linux-laptop site I linked above of one such company:

As I said I don't know anything about this company but I would certainly give them a serious look just for being displayed on the linux-laptop site and for promoting their laptops as Linux laptops. Here's another interesting one in my Google search:

Must say..

I did a double take on "keep it under 4 or 5 pounds if possible"
and my thought was "pounds" as in money, must be a typo,
until I realised it's the weight of the thing....

Got to be careful. I found a company that offered preinstallation, then realized they actually but the M$ loaded systems then preinstall. So M$ are profiting by your purchase. Usually they say this in the about section for the company.

Just something to pay attention to.

what laptop did you end up getting mate? Im about to be hunting myself a fiesty laptop in the computer jungle.

Is there somewhere to find out which wireless cards will work properly in linux?
