Slackware 8.1 Sound Problems

Postby ThePreacher » Wed Jan 29, 2003 3:06 am

Im in a question asking mood so here goes. I installed Slackware 8.1 on my laptop and have found that the sound was not configured automatically when I installed like it was when I installed Red Hat 8.0, and Mandrake 9.0. How would I go about configuring sound in Slackware?

what sound card do you have, and more specifically, is it a soundcard that can use ALSA?

Im not to sure of this, but you might want to poke around with the /etc/rc.d/rc.modules and things like esd and alsa, and Open Sound System.

i thought there was a curses based app to help setup sound. I've always compiled my own sound module so i'm not sure/

Well i dont think there is, basicly you need to enable the module for your sound card in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules

of its an intel 810 chipset, add the following llines:
/sbin/modprobe i810_sound
/sbin/modprobe ac97
/sbin/modprobe ac97_codec

if you are unsure of what module you use look in the file, or check your /lib/modules/kernel-version/drivers/sound
