My New Project

Just thought I would let you guys know that I have put my new project online if anyone wants to check it out. (www.ircdig.com)

It is an irc search engine. It is still under development as far as the front end goes but the backend is pretty much finished.

Constructive criticism is always welcome.

Very nice looking site. After doing a search I see it comes up with a list of files that the text is contained in but is there a way to actually look inside them? I don't know much about IRC though.

The files are binary downloads, ie. movies, applications, mp3's, etc.. So say if you were to search for "Linux" it would search the database for any "pack" name that contained the term "Windows". It then displays this information in a way that would allow the user to know which irc server, channel and bot had this pack for download. Then you could use any one of your favorite irc clients (mIRC, KVirc, bitchx, etc) to connect to this server and channel and download the file. If you notice in the search results the server and channel are hyperlinked to an "irc" protocol (irc://) which, if you have an irc client installed on your machine, will launch it for you and connect to that server and join that channel.

I assume all of the stuff that pops up on that search is legal? The first one looks suspect to me. If not, I would switch your example search to "Linux". Even if it's is all legal a better search would certainly still be Linux.

Yes Linux is a much better search. However the data may or may not be legal. I do not control what people put on their servers. My application simply parses the data the servers displays and provides a way of searching for specific things. While there is a ton of legal and helpful things on irc there is also a ton of warez and pirated software. It is up to the user to act responsibly when choosing what to download.

I like how a channel with warez in the name has Mandrake Linux :)
