scp

erm.. Whenever i try using scp from my slackware desktop to my SuSE laptop, it does not work.

It displays a fortune (i assume from logging into mor on the laptop), but does not copy the files or anything.

So far ive just been using scp from my laptop to copy from the desktop machine, but this is pretty annoying.

Anyone seen this before?

It would be helpful to see the actual command line you used. I'm not sure why you would see fortune output via scp. I could understand with ssh but not scp. Are there any error messages in your messages/security log?

Code: Select all
mor@slick:~$ scp rcc/engl130/groupres/slide.odp mor@192.168.0.5:~/windocuments/rcc/engl130/groupres/
Password:
Proposed Additions to the PDP-11 Instruction Set:
mor@slick:~$

is when i try scp from slackware desktop to laptop.

and messages on the laptop are:
sshd: Accepted keyboard-interactive/pam for mor from 192.168.0.4 port 52921 ssh2

and on the desktop there is no messages that i find.

You can also turn debugging messages on by adding a "-v" to your command line. Add more "v"s for more messages. It might show something. Also, according to these messages fortune will nuke your scp connection:

Remove fortune from your profile and see if that solves it.
