named problems

If you used the files in my example directly they would work. You obviously have a problem with your rndc keys. If they keys don't match it ain't going to work. Here is another example of the rndc keys that may or may not help:

Well im going to bed, I seen a much simpler dns server package for linux on tucows a while ago. Unless somebody has some good ideas.

Ok, I found a problem with my tar file. The ownership is not correct. After you install the tar file do this:

# chown root:root /etc/named.conf
# chown root:named /etc/rndc*
# chown named:named /var/named/*

This should solve your problem. I changed something in the tar file on a different machine that didn't have the named userID which I am sure screwed it up. I will fix it now. Sorry about that!

Ok, I fixed the "dhcp-dyndns.tar.gz" file so the permissions are right. Now if you follow the directions it should work as advertised. I can't believe I did that. I usually check that sort of stuff 3 times over. I had found a minor error in one of the files some time after creating the tutorial. I unpacked the file on the web server, fixed the file and repacked it. I meant to do this as root but I apparently did it as user "voidmain". Now that I think about it, either way it would have been screwed up by doing it on the web server rather than the original machine that I did the tutorial on. At any rate, the file is fixed and I thank you for pointing out the problem. I hope not too many others have run into this problem. I've only gotten positive feedback back on this dns tutorial so far.
