That's pretty typical of home users on dialup. I am actually in the same boat with SBC Yahoo DSL. I have to forward through their server. I also have a web page on their system that where I define what email accounts are allowed to send mail through them from my address. Your ISP may be different on how they control it.

Well, the only thing they said is that if I would relay it through their mailserver it would be fine and I guess that it has to be both in AND out mails, thus giving the customer a mail from eg. xenonlyse@bahnhof.se instead of the thing I was thinking of., xxx@xenonlyse.se

They told me that it's not LEGAL to have my own mail server... (if you excuse me...) wth... LEGAL!!!!... In that case, why is it possible then lol
Ah well, I guess I have to do what they say or I may lose my connection totally.

I think I have to set the relay through their mailserver, both incoming and outgoing is the same server, but the question is how.
I still haven't found anything about it that I think I can use.

As with my RAID card, I got the "onboard" program to mail me(my private bahnhof account) with any information from it and in that I've set the SMTP server as localhost, but the email account that will be used to "send from" is my private bahnhof mail address and then it is supposed to mail myself, yes! the same account that I just told you about... my private "from" account.

Did you get any info from this that could help out?

I meant "DHCP" not "dialup". If it is illegal there then you guys are more messed up than we are. You should only have to relay the outgoing mail through their smtp server. Didn't you already test the incoming mail and find it to work? I'm heading out for the weekend so hopefully someone else will be able to help you if you need it.

I don't think anyone here can or even WILL answer my nutty questions unless it's you

Everything both IN- and OUT-going mail and I told them that, that if it's illegal(well not due to some Swedish law, but their own customer rules, as I guess) then why can I even DO!!! it.
It might be that they can't close everything they should or they just don't care, I don't know. I'm not gonna cross them so I'm gonna do as they say and my sis says it's OK, so...

Another year and more questions of the same thing

Since I had problems with my IP being DHCP (in some kind) I've decided to set this new server up using my ISP's STMP server as outgoing server.

I found this place: http://cri.ch/linux/docs/sk0009.html and I did points 1.1 to 1.3 and wondering if that is correct and if I need the rest?
p1.4 seems good since I need it to show the sites address instead of my IPS's
but I thought this would take care of that

This time the new web server will have two domain names one is .se and one is .com but both are gonna be the same server.
It's gonna have a new webshop in it and since I didn't get the mail server working last time, this time I'm gonna go trough my ISP's smtp server so the receiver get the mail from a domain with a IP address not in any black lists or any other lists.
I've been looking around on how to let sendmail "fool" the receiver to be from the domain we bought and not my ISPs and I know that this will masquerade take care of, but I need them to be separated and by this I mean that when a user logs in using the .com domain the mail from the web server should be from that domain, and vice versa with the .se domain.

I've been looking around and found something called: genericstable but have still not found anything that my little brain have understood. (I haven't got so far that I can't try it out yet).
My question now is... I'm I on the right track?

I'm gonna lose my job at the end of this month so I'm gonna have plenty of time doing this... and I'm gonna love it

Maybe this is correct, but I don't like the localhost that I can see (marked it in bold). On the other hand I can see localhost from mf.bahnhof.se and mf3.bahnhof.se too, but I want to be sure.
I even tried to masquerade localhost:

That was the first thing, the more bigger issue is that I can't receive a mail on the server. If I telnet to it using the DNS name kgdubben.se I see thet my iptables script lets it through and I get the typical line in /var/log/maillog

I don't see an MX record for your domain (try "dig MX" not "dig MS").

There is no MX record showing there and do you really want people to send mail to yourname@www.kgdubben.se or yourname@kgdubben.se? Either way there is no MX record for either of those.

I still can't get a mail session open. How can you run a mail server if you are blocking port 25 unless you only want specific machines to be able to send you mail.

It's weird that you can't get in, cos the firewall log says it let you in on port 25, well if you IP is: 99.....
And about your comment about why having it "closed" if I want a mail server, well I just want to open it up for myself when testing so it won't get hacked or anything while I'm trying to set it up. After it's working it'll be open as it should be.

Anyhow, It's 2AM(GMT+1) here and I gotta go up for work in 4,5 hours so...
I'll stop trying for today and I'll shut the server down and start over tomorrow again.
