Fortunately I have no use for wine/winex anymore. Yes that's right I don't play games anymore, I also re-discovered my life :p
Linux has easily replaced all the other windows apps I used to use.

Void, how come you are trying wine? Just for the knowledge?

Ice9 said he saw in the RH9 review that the person couldn't get Wine to work and that he would wait until that problem was solved before upgrading. I just tried to verify that there was a problem with it and there is. Personally I don't use Wine for many reasons. I don't have any Windows applications that I just have to run, and if I did it probably wouldn't run under Wine anyway.

I too quit playing computer games years ago. Sure I'll download a demo for Linux now and then and check it out (UT, Quake, etc). If I do play a game today it's usually with my kids on the PS2. But more often than not when it's play time my son and I go dirt bike riding/racing. I too try to have somewhat of a life.

You'll be starting to see (read) less and less of me around here over the next few weeks and months because I have some exams next month and after that i'm making my spectacular comeback to trials!

I will try and make an appearance on a video this summer too.

end of off-topic ramblings..

[off topic ramblings]
My son and I have been looking into a helmet cam. I have a Sony digital video camera that has analog input/outputs so I should have no trouble. I was thinking about wearing a camera in the next race. Maybe I'll clip some video and put it on the Void site. I also do Hill climbs. I don't recall ever seeing any helmet video from a hill climb. Maybe I can be the first. :)

Here's one we've been looking at (system 3):

But I really don't know much about them or if there is a better solution. Do you know of something? I'll look around some more...

To be honest I don't - Im not sure what vidcams me friends who film use, they're not helemt cams anyways. They also edit their stuff on windows too :(

The people to ask will be the maccies that have migrated to here from MES. They are (supposed) to be audio/video geniuses, or maybe not since they like it to 'just work' lol ;)

Should probably start a thread in the lounge.

Also, the cameras on the link you posted look ok. (as far as my limited experince goes)
But their website is sh.. - I mean 'poo' a brilliant showcase of the effort an average englishman makes on a computer.

*Walks off disgraced at the state of that 'site*

First let me say, Voidman great site, got the link from the *nix forum at Ars.

Ok. I too am interested in upgrading to 9 (there is nothing wrong with 8 I just want to do it for fun :)).

Just wanted to know if webmin & most specifically the turtlefirewall module inside of webmin will work with rh 9?

I use my linux box as the router for my Earthlink DSL & the above not working would be a show stopper for me.

do you think buying redhat9 is worth it? i can't dl it, because i have a dialup and none of my friends feel like dling another 3 cds, so i'm wondering if it's worth it, or if i should just stay with redhat8 for now.

I had never heard of Turtle Firewall until you mentioned it. I don't really use webmin for much personally but I just installed the Turtle Firewall module on RH9 and it seems to work. It's just a wrapper for iptables anyway and iptables hasn't changed much from RH8 to RH9 (I believe from 1.2.6 yo 1.2.7a). I prefer to configure iptables directly. Do you have a spare machine to set up and test with? I would really be surprised if it will give you troubles but I certainly could be wrong.

Of course I remember you. I'm just old, not cenile. :)

If you already have RH8.0 then I can't think of a super compelling reason to purchase RH9. They are very similar. RH9 does seem to be a little more polished in just about every area and overall I believe it to be a little better than RH8 but it's your money. If you have plenty of money I say purchase the upgrade, if you don't I say stick with RH8. :)

Actually you get the new Gnome and KDE which may be a plus for you and unlike KDE in RH8 I believe KDE in RH9 actually works pretty well. They seem to have fixed what they broke (still blue curved though). I forced myself to use Gnome in RH8 after using KDE for a couple of years prior. Now even with 9 I've seen no reason to switch back to KDE but GUIs aren't all that important to me as you probably know.
