Rawhide packages

Postby Ice9 » Tue Apr 29, 2003 3:13 am

Are these some kind of alpha/beta testing packages?
Would it be safe to install on Red Hat 8?

The reason I ask this is that I would like to install Evolution 1.2 and I can't seem to find any rpm's for Red Hat 8, only Evolution 1.0.8.
Found several packages but they were all either for RH9 or Rawhide.

I'm running 1.2.2 on RH 9 and I was running 1.2 on RH8 the day after 1.2 came out quite some time ago. I believe I just used Ximian Red Carpet to install it on RH8.

Yes, I saw that was a possibility too, but I'm using KDE, not sure if I can use Red Carpet with KDE but I guess not.

I don't see why you couldn't. If you have the gnome libraries installed that are necessary to run Evolution already then I would suspect you will have no problen running Red Carpet. Just install it and run it, it's a simple RPM. In fact back when I was still using RH7.x and before I knew about apt I used Red Carpet often and at that time I only used KDE for my desktop environment.
