Linux Internet Connection Sharing

Postby Maniaman » Sat Apr 19, 2003 2:19 pm

How would I set up internet connection sharing on my Linux machine through command line? X is being a dickhead and wont load at all. when I try running xf68cfg the screen just plain goes blank, so I'm pretty much stuck with command line...

Hmmm, I know Mandrake has this Internet Connection Sharing thing-a-ma-bob but I don't know anything about it and I am not very familiary with Mandrake at all. I would assume that it is nothing more than a graphical utility to configure iptables which is what I use on Red Hat for this same purpose. There's another thread around here somewhere where I helped someone else do this manually. Let's see... ah yes here it is:

viewtopic.php?t=20&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

There's a bunch of other garbage in there that you may want to ignore but it should get you started. I don't even have Xwindows installed my my Red Hat gateway, I do everything from the command line.

Then again, in Red Hat every graphical utility that I am aware of also has a curses mode (text mode). Does this Mandrake ICS program not have a text mode?

tbh i would forget it, and hope 9.1 has improved...

Mandrake 8.2 and below the ICS button in the MDK CC worked fine.
But in Mandrake 9.0 it is, well F*CKED, lol.

I have read many tutorials and such about this, search google for ages and the best i could find was http://www.mplug.org/phpwiki/index.php/BasicFirewallRouter

I hope you have better luck then me.
Im still trying to let my sister share the connection.

Im at a LAN friday-sunday, so on Monday i recon ima set-up a small box with MDK 8.2, just as a router.
