I tried using hostname -v but it didnt stick after I rebooted.
How would I change this for good???

You need to change it in your /etc/sysconfig/network file, or you can click on the "DNS" tab in your "Network Configuration" graphical tool (click "System Settings"->"Network" on your menu).
