XServer crashes after connecting on the internet

Postby monteiro » Fri May 16, 2003 7:26 pm

After connecting on Internet, if I try to run any program nothing happens. Trying on a terminal gives the message "cannot open display". Even using "xhost +" before the same problem occurs. I use a cable modem and noticed that the host changes from "localhost" to "dhcp-yyyy-xx". Anyone could help me with this?

If your hostname changes after you have X up and running that certainly could cause a problem. In your /etc/hosts file at the end of the line that starts with "127.0.0.1" you might want to add your default hostname (the one that shows up when you type the "hostname" command.

e.g.
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost myhostname
