rh term server?

Postby jarends » Sun Jun 22, 2003 9:31 pm

I like your redhat term server instructions. Something I wish I had thought of a while ago.

I'd like to connect to the RH box using an OS X box though. I have apple's beta version of X11 installed, but I can't figure out how connect.

If I type X -broadcast it bitches because X is already running.

I have no idea what I'm talking about but...the normal terminal in OS X is not aware of X11, and if you fire up X11, you get Xterm, but then X11 is already running so you can't connect that way.

I tried to connect using ssh but no luck. Any ideas?

Oh yeah, the point is I don't want it to take over my machine, I want my linux desktop in a window on my powerbook...

Does the X server for OSX come with a program called "Xnest"? My Red Hat box comes with it and also a program called "gdmXnestchooser" which is really cool because it will start a GDM session in a window and broadcast for any other login managers running on the network, allowing you to graphically log in to any of your machines (assuming you have XDMCP configured on those machines).

Not sure. I was kinda hoping you might have a mac around to play with. I'll look into this in the morning.

OS X has its own windowing system Aqua, which is not x11. So you end up running X11 rootless.

No I don't, and if I did I would probably be running Linux on it. :) There are several Mac users here though that might have an answer for you.
