wmaker - how do i fiddle with it?

Postby Calum » Thu Jul 31, 2003 4:21 pm

well i just installed the RH9 rpms of windowmaker and windowmaker-extra from rpm.pbone.net (which is an EXCELLENT site for rpms) and i added "wmaker" to my kcontrol kdm menu (since i don't know how to configure gdm properly i dropped it, oh the shame!) but a couple of dumb questions spring up.

how do i properly customise windowmaker? when i go to appearance>background i only get the choices of pictures that are already within the theme i am using, and other stuff seems a bit limiting too. What sort of info do i need to know to customise windowmaker in this way (look & feel)?

how do i customise the windowmaker menu? it has entries for xterm and rxvt but i want to change them for "rxvt -sr -vb -tr -rv" and "aterm -tint grey -fg white -tr -trsb -sr -vb" and there are a lot of other menu entries i want to change. are the menus read from text files? if so how do i get to them to edit them? edit: i think i can do this using the GUI control panel like thing actually...

and while we're at it, can i change the hotspots on the windowmanager title bars? i like the close button on the left side, a la MacOS, not on the right a la mswindows and, it seems, a la windowmaker... how do we config the window manager?

how do i make the kdm entry read "WindowMaker" instead of "wmaker"? "wmaker" is the command needed to start windowmaker i gather, but i'd like the displayed name to actually say "WindowMaker" if possible...

thanks in advance.

maybe this should be in gen. applications instead.. what do you think?

I think you should find most of what you can configure here (including the menu items):

http://largo.windowmaker.org/features/configuration.php

Also, just in case you haven't looked at it yet there is a lot of good info in the unofficial FAQ:

http://largo.windowmaker.org/wmfaq/

I used to use WindowMaker a lot as it's light weight and is very nice. Haven't used it in a while though.
