GODSDAMN XMMS!!!!!!!

Postby Calum » Wed Aug 06, 2003 4:03 am

okay. i use OSS. i have two sound cards, the one i use is at /dev/dsp and so forth, it works fine etc and is a sound blaster awe64.

I use xmms to listen to oggs and mp3s (yes they're all legal before we start), and until now it's been fine. recently though xmms started doing this thing where it randomly gives me the "make sure you have selected the correct output driver" box every now and again at the end of a track and then won't play anything else until i close it and restart the program. This now happens after every single song.

What the hell's going on and how do i fix it?

any ideas?

There are one or two threads about this on the redhat bugzilla, I have lost all my bookmarks since i visited there but i'm sure you could find it with their search.
I think the solution involved chaging the gaps between tracks or something???

Yup, this happened to me on RH9 after logging in as a normal user...A reboot fixed it though. May be something to do with permissions.

it's possible that either or both of you are right, but actually i have now got some nice load meters down the side of the screen (there are some good ones for wmaker) and they tell me that when the CPU is close to 100% usage, this problem will occur. I don't know what exactly the problem is but now i know the characteristic time for it to occur, it's a great relief. Those load meters also tell me that my CPU usage goes up nearly to 100% if aumix is running (of all things), kill aumix and CPU usage shoots back down to sensible levels!

bizarre.
