what's my hardware?

Postby Calum » Thu Sep 18, 2003 2:52 pm

hello,
slack on the new laptop (a compaq m300), is there a linux command (preferably textual) i can use to find out exactly what hardware i have?this includes make/model of drives, type of video card, pci and isa cards (i want to find out what exactly i have in the desktop machine too (it runs rh9)), or is there someopen source tool i can install to do this?

thanks in advance. this is the sort of thing i imagine has an easy answer i can't imagine it not existing in a standard linux distro to be honest, am i right?

I think a combination of cat /proc/whatever and google and hdparm for the drives should salvage most of the info.
KDE Control centre also has some of the info from /proc i believe.
