automatic login?

Postby Ice9 » Sun Feb 02, 2003 2:54 am

I've been away for a day or two, saw the post about log out and create a new cookie.
Ok, I did, I logged back in but I can't check the box that make me automaticvally logged in when I come here?

Someone else had that problem?

What domain name are you coming to this site with? If you come to the forum using http://voidmain.is-a-geek.net/ but if you come in on any other domain it will not. This happens because of the way phpBB is written. I'm not sure if I can hack it to work differently. I suppose I could change the Forum link on the main page to go to the proper domain when going to the forums and this would solve the problem. Then the only people who would have problems are the ones that come directly to the forum and skip the main page (http://voidmain.kicks-ass.net/forums/ which would still cause a problem). At any rate if you use "is-a-geek" rather than "kicks-ass" it should work. Changing main page now... Let me know if this does not solve your problem. Thanks.

I was coming here via http://voidmain.kicks-ass.net/forums/index.php, I tried clicking the new link you provided and click through to the forums, still same issue.
Well it's not really an issue, I only have to click "Log in" each time.
But it was kinda easy when I logged in automatically :)

Are you blocking cookies? You'll need to allow cookies for voidmain.is-a-geek.net. That's the only thing that has caused me similar login problems.

No I'm not blocking cookies, in fact I just tried to log out and delete your cookies.
I re-entered my login and password and still the same.
I checked and the cookie's back there.
Don't bother, it's only a minor annoyance anc I'm sure you have better things to do than try to solve such a trivial problem.

If you are having the problem I am sure others are as well. What browser are you using so I can trouble-shoot it?

Sorry Void, had to leave yesterday and now I'm at work so I will not be able to check anything out until tonight.
I use Mozilla 1.1 on RH8, and for your information I just did exactly the same as I did at home but on an NT4 machine with IE 5.5 and the automatic login worked :?

Yeah, 100Mbps is pretty nice. I can even get to it when my provider is down. :) Speaking of that. How slow is it for you guys? Much slower than MES? I guess I could just fire up Squid on one of my remote servers and point my browser to that proxy and be able to tell how slow it is for you.... Checking now...

Interesting. For me going through my proxy many hops away it's not much slower than it is going in direct. It's very fast as a matter of fact. Much faster than MES was the last few weeks I was on it. Must have a good path between my home provider and where I have my servers hosted.

This forum loads up as fast as I could really need. I'm not left waiting for the page. It is plenty fast enough for yours truly.

Ok, it works now.
I did exactly the same as before, deleting the cookie and the password, except that I saw a big red "Automatic login" on which I clicked and now it works.

And btw, these forums load faster for me than the MES forums did the last couple of weeks.
