Uptime reporting wrong?

Postby tk » Fri Jun 18, 2004 1:08 am

Hi, I'm using FC2 and when I type "uptime" it says that there are 7 users. However I am the only person who uses this computer. Sometimes this would also happen in FC1 (would go to 2 or 3 users)... What's going on here?

Type "who" and count. How many do you see?

I restarted, uptime now reports 4 users. For the "who" command I get 4 entries.

tk pts/1 June 18 14:16 (:0.0)
tk pts/2 June 18 14:24 (:0.0)
tk pts/3 June 18 15:47 (:0.0)

I remember you saying that two entries are normal, one for the login and one for the shell, but what's happening here?

How many shells (terminals) do you have open (looks like 3 to me)? There will be one for each, plus one for your X login.
