Installing DebIan

yes, it fixed the problem. it gives you the instructions to do that if you press f5 on the first debian screen. of course the first screen doesn't tell you to press f5! anyway, it works, but then when debian is installed it wants to use the framebuffer again, so i expect i need to give it that argument every time i boot into it.

You just have to add the parameter to your LILO or GRUB boot config.
