Dumb Screen Size problem

Postby Calum » Sat Sep 04, 2004 3:50 am

hello.

when i start linux, it has a screen resolution of 1600x1200 or something like it. this is OK, i have pretty bad eyesight but have got my x fonts big enough etc so X is OK, but when i try and use one of the virtual terminals (not in X, by pressing ctrl-alt-f2 usually (don't ask me why f2, my fingers seem to just prefer that one)) the letters are MINISCULE (or in fact miniscule!). How do i fix them? i just can't remember what file to edit and when i seacrh online it's all about people's resolution in XF86Config files which is not what i want.

thanks of course in advance...

Edit your grub/lilo config to pass vga=ask to the kernel.
Fiddle with the different options until you find a satisfactory one, then change the vga=ask to use your preferred value.

thank you!

i might as well mention that some versions of SUSE reportedly have a problem with the vga= thing and they advise you to change it to vga=normal if you have problems. just thought i'd mention it.
