FC2 : KDE 3.3 latest update conflicts with Evolution.

Postby Membrax » Fri Oct 01, 2004 2:17 am

Hi Folks !

I just updated this night to the latest revision of KDE 3.3
Synaptic told me some other packages had to be removed to grant the operation :
gnome-panel
redhat-artwork
gnome-pilot
gnome-I-do-not-remember-what
... evolution (!?!)

And all ran nicely.

Except that I can't reinstall Evolution, it needs gnome-pilot, and some other stuff.
The most critical collision occurs with "redhat-artwork" : an apt-get error tells that it conflicts with the new installes kdebase (or kdelibs, can't recall coz it was quite -too- late)

And so it goes :
no redhat-artwork --> no evolution
but redhat-artwork won't install ... headache is coming.

As latest rescue I thought, OK, follow God's will and go for Kmail.
Ouch, kmail is no where to be found and doesn't exist independantly, it is part of kde I've read on some sites.
Though, the latest kde is nowon installed ... and I've lost all my e-mail appz.

Erhmmm, any clue friends ?

kmail is part of kdepim
an # apt-get install kdepim should do it
you don't have to use kmail separately, if you install kdepim you will have kontact which is basically the same as eveolution only less buggy.

I use kontact instead of evolution and have been doing that for the last couple of months after getting tired of all the little quirks and errors evolution constantly gave me and I really don't regret it.
