index.html

Postby JoeDude » Sat Oct 09, 2004 8:11 pm

ok, I'm a dummy.

what's the href for linking to files for downloading on your index. Just to make a clickable dowmload...such as an .iso file which is located in the same directory as the index.html.

<html>
<head>
<title>Joe's Junk</title>
</head>
<body>
<href=???IDUNNOWHAT2PUHERE></href>
</body>
</html>

Obviously a basic boring set up, I'll get more detail later. I just want the index set up. Also, I would like it to reference it in a way where it displays the downloadable files name. Thanx in adavance.

I learned HTML using Mozilla Composer and just discovering what created what HTML code, and yea

nowdays if im unsure I just use the reference on the World Wide Web Consortum

www.w3c.org

If you do it that way, it is a lot more reading and a bit more time, however I prefer to get a good reference and explaination because that way I can really understand whats going on. When you grasp an understanding of how somthing works and not just how to work somthing, you get a lot more natural at it, and thats what being a hacker is all about!

This is just a suggestion, but when you understand somthing well enough, you will find its easy to just become natural with things.

i wouldn't even say it takes more time.

for me, i find i use maybe less than 10 actual tags most of the time, anything else i need to use (and which i have temporarily forgotten!) is easily found out simply by fiddling about with bluefish (which will insert tags for you) or by looking at the various html files that tend to be found on the hard drive.

Don't forget to "View Source" on your favorite sites. It's all out in the open. Of course W3C will get you the "correct" answers.

You should really be using BitTorrent or FTP for distribution of such large files too.

Everything you ever wanted to know about links, but were afraid to ask.

bittorrent is racialist against dialuppers

it gets 500 bytes a second on dialup, and is quite terrible, but then not many people download huge files on dialup.

And if you want a ftp server, i suggest vsftpd, it kicks royal arse i have noticed.
