ADSL problem with Redhat 9

Place to discuss Fedora and/or Red Hat

Man, I feel so stinkin' helpless on this one because there is no way I can test anything to see if it works not having the hardware or the service available to me, not to mention I don't run Mandrake (the least of the problems). I really want to help too. To complicate matters (as far as those instructions go) is that you are running a 2.6.x kernel and they assume a 2.4.x kernel (major differences, so surely some part of the instructions would not be correct).

I just looked at the config for your kernel and it appears that crc32 is compiled in on your kernel so you shouldn't have to load it (actually you can't because the module doesn't exist, but it should be compiled permanently into the kernel). I really don't think I am in a position to give you the best advice on this. I have to assume you can get the best help either here:

http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=287227

or on some madrake forums, or from Mandrake themselves.

I found one thread on using this driver with Mandrake 10 but like you said it is in spanish:
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php? ... _id=287227

and running it through a computer translator doesn't help me any:
http://world.altavista.com/babelfish/tr

The only thing I can think to do is to start a new topic on the above sourceforge forum asking for help. Mention that you are running Mandrake 10.0 and point out the link you are trying to work from. Also ask if that Spanish thread about Mandrake 10.0 had any success and could they share results. I know a little German but the only thing I can do in Spanish is count to 10 and order a beer (well, I can order up to 10 beers). :)

Hey, look at this: http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=2471942

I'm going to delete the crc32 part, maybe.. who knows... with a lot of luck, it will work!

I'm feeling kinda guilty now because I have no idea how I can help you gather more info for this. Or should I try on last time for another distro like Suse. But Suse contains 7 CD's and that's quit a lot compared to Mandrake.

An aditional problem is that I barely have enough bandwith to download another distro this month. Or it'll cost me a lot!

Maybe oe of the guys on sourceforge can help me But that's something for tomorrow.

Either LinuxJournal, or Linux Magazine (can't remember) have Suse 9.1 on their cover DVD this month.

Yes that link looks very promising:

http://www.csn.ul.ie/~caolan/TechTexts/ ... HowTo.html

Yes you should be able to just comment out the crc32 stuff because it is built into your kernel:

http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=2471902

The only problem is the link assumes that you have been working with Linux for a while and are familiar with compiling and installing custom kernels and leaves some of the basic things out. Again, I would want to have personal experience running through the doc and getting the modem working before I could give any advice. If you follow the instructions and get stuck I would reply to the person in the message indicating that he got it working and see if you can get some pointers. Maybe even better yet send a message to the person who wrote the document (the email address is listed at the bottom of the page):

Caolan McNamara <caolan@skynet.ie>

You better hurry though because it looks like he's about to get married and that will surely limit his free time. :)

He is more than welcome to post here to help you so others might benefit, or not, either way..

Hey thanks for all the help.
It doesn't work yet, but I'm sure I'll get it working soon. I don't have the time and patience for the moment to work on it. Next week I'll try again.
