gnumeric gnosedive

Postby worker201 » Thu Dec 16, 2004 2:38 pm

I was running gnumeric today, looking at a really short (120 rows, 6 colums) spreadsheet, that I had ceated on Win in Excel format (.xls). I was running gaim, terminal, gedit, gnumeric, and ggv every few minutes. Gnumeric "closed unexpectedly" about every 10 minutes. I saved the file in native gnumeric xml format, hoping that it was the Excel format that made it unstable, but it didn't help. In desperation, I finally copied the spreadsheet values and pasted them into gedit.

I would like to get gnumeric to work, since it is a good program - reminds me of Quattro, a spreadsheet I always liked. How can I go about fixing it? Where would crash logs be stored? And why is a native Gnome program having so much trouble?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I would go to the gnumeric project site:
http://www.gnome.org/projects/gnumeric/

Browse over the list of bugs in the bugs section. There are several crash related bugs there. If none of them are like yours then I would suggest opening a new bug. Also, I assume you know about OpenOffice.org Calc so....

I'm not a huge fan of OpenOffice, but I went ahead and installed it anyway, since I need to have a spreadsheet available. I much prefer the look and feel of AbiWord and Gnumeric.

Thanks for the link.
