Transparent Proxy with WRT54G

Postby Maniaman » Mon Jan 17, 2005 5:35 pm

How would i go about setting up a transparent proxy (i think that it the term) with my WRT54G router? Right now, my dad tends to enjoy bypassing the proxy so he can use IE, and bypass the filtering. I want to redirect all the web traffic through the proxy server (192.168.1.101:3128). How would I do this with the WRT54G?

I don't think you can do redirects with the stock firmware because the interface doesn't include that detailed of a firewall configuration, however, if you stick a firmware that has telnet access on your router you should be able to configure iptables to do this with no problem. I had no problem entering the necessary iptables rules on mine (running OpenWRT) and redirecting port 80 to 3128 on squid server.
