term question

Postby worker201 » Sat Feb 12, 2005 12:10 am

Currently, my term environment variable is set to "xterm-color", which seems to work well for me. However, when I telnet to a remote server, it doesn't like that terminal type. Setting term to "unknown" solves the problem with the remote server, but it still won't let me open pine. But, if I set term to "vt100", then everything is fine and dandy, and pine opens and everything.

So, the question is: is there anyway to use my .cshrc files to set the terminal type to vt100 when I give a telnet command, and then switch back afterwards? That would be the ideal situation, having this process automated.

Usually you set your TERM variable on the remote server and you can put the logic in your login profile to set your TERM variable to what you need. I'm surprised "xterm" wouldn't be the TERM setting you would want.

So I can add "setenv TERM xterm" to my .cshrc on the remote server? Cool. I'll have to try that.
