The Joy of Netcraft's string handling

http://voidmain.is-a-geek.net was running Not on Linux when last queried at 26-Jul-2004 10:53:45 GMT netcraft changed the page to show the first word of the server string followed by the detected OS who knew setting the server string as "Not IIS and certainly not Windoze" could backfire like that. :D

Like I said, I don't really mind that I don't run WEP, like I said, for me WEP causes more problems than it solves.

if I don't want snooping i just use an ethernet cable.

again, why bother? I have 2 neighbors with unsecured WAPs.

and I don't use WEP as it has caused problems in the past when legitimate devices try and connect.

if you broadcast with an SSID of "default" or "linksys" or even "changeme" that is kinda asking for snooping.

and that is just if I braodcast my SSID. (I changed it to something else)

no you wouldn't, my nextdoor neighbors have a unsecured WAP from D-Link with the default settings unchanges, no MAC filtration or WEP.

if you only have x machines on your WLAN than set up a MAC filter that is pro-active rather than re-active. You manually add each permitted MAC to the WAP.

this, IMO beats WEP anyday of the week, even on thursday.

so, when do we get an official Novell client for linux? I can see what they want in the companies they bought:
Ximian Inc.: Evolution, expect groupwise connectivity soon
SUSE: they needed a distro to put it into

hopefully they won't kill it like wordperfect and and friends.
