Yeah, adding the "-a" switch to "cp" will copy all the permissions/ownership along with the file. Of course a "mv" would have just renamed it and kept the ownership/permissions as well. :) Or a "-p" :) I thought I had done that, but I guess not. Thanks for the thought. I didn't want to move it, so ...

You did rename your reverse zone file to "192.168.1.rev" right? Are there any named related error messages near the end of /var/log/messages after restarting the named service? I caught it right after I posted... apparently copying the original file didn't maintain the ownership. Changing it back t...

Help With Bind

Hi everyone... I'm hoping someone can help me out on this, as I'm stuck and going crazy. I decided to change my address range from 192.168.0.0/24 to 192.168.1.0/24, and thought that I made only those changes. Now I'm able to correctly resolve hostnames, but a reverse lookup fails. I'm running FC4 fu...

LDAP read-only user to bind with

Hi Guys, Haven't posted here in a while... but I ran across something I need help with, so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I've got an open LDAP implementation running right now, but the only thing I can't seem to get a grasp of are ACLs. With anonymous access turned off, I'm...

http://willert.dk/geek/raid.html I've got a dedicated linux server with 2 80GB drives, mirrored... it works great, however there are some limitations. The two most annoying are that the partitions to be mirrored need to be labled as "Linux Software Raid" (which requires reformating them, IE reinsta...

I think ATI has a nice Forum you might also want to check in case you don't get much help here. nVidia has a great one and I believe ATI's is just as good. Someone there would surely be able to tell you if something will work for you. That's a good idea... siplus: to answer your previous question: ...

it's an "ATI M6-C graphics controller" that was coming off of the toshiba spec sheet i linked to. i guess it isn't a raedon. hmm... http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html i'm guessing that if they offered a driver, that it would be under 'mobile', but that just redirects you to the page i mentioned...

Do you know if the laptop video card is technically labeled as "Radeon" ? That may help us point you to the right drivers....

I'm guessing that you weren't using the "-9" param with either kill or killall which is why the process wasn't actually being killed. A "-9" tells the kill command to use any means possible to kill the process, even if it doesn't want to die with a plain old "kill". You generally don't want to use ...

I've read all the bugzilla reports about this, but it's odd... I've never had an issue with it at all. I've installed several dual-boot FC2 installations, and haven't seen anything like this. One odd thing I DID notice is that booting into kde (run level 5), on my desktop machine, will get me into k...

They don't include it now for legal reasons... being sued is never fun. Knoppix and Mepis have icons that represent mountable partitions on the system hard disk drives. Why would it be illegal to mount my Windoze files while using Fedora ? They are my files on my computer that I wish to access from...

Thanks but I'm going to get the CD ISOs. I have already upgraded the one machine I have a DVD in via apt a couple of days ago. :) I found a repo out there that had FC2 OS and I just duplicated it and installed from my own apt repo. I hunted around until 4:00am this morning for mirrors that might ha...

The only thing I'd really like to see in Fedora is automounting of any and all additional hard disk partitions. I've been using Mepis and Knoppix, both Live CDs boot up with icons on the desktop for mounting all the hard disk partitions that are availabe on your system, very convenient. What would ...
