I'm sure there has to be a way to do this, but I'm not sure if it is rm or not. I keep my music on my Mac's hard drive, formatted HFS+. I'm about to go overseas, and I am not taking my Mac with me, so I copied all the music to an external drive, so that I can "loan" it to people who have computers o...
I finished my initial install last night, and made full notes of my choices for each step. I used the "menu" package choosing command, and listed exactly what packages I installed. The package menu has changed considerably since the last version - some packages are in different locations, some packa...
Guess I must have been kinda busy lately, how could I miss this? Slackware 12 was released on July 2, and it looks awesome. * kernel 2.6.21.5 (first default 2.6 kernel in distro history) * gcc 4.1.2 (first gcc4 in distro history) Normally, Slackware stays kinda behind the curve, delivering trusted b...
My understanding was that Red Hat had a core development pool that future versions of RHEL were based off, and Fedora Core was basically a release snapshot of that development core. By no longer calling it Core, are they implying that there is no longer a relationship between Fedora code/development...
i was under the impression that apps like vim and elvis will run differently re: things like colour coding depending on how they are invoked, ie: if invoked through a symlink called "vi" they would behave differently than if called directly. Is this a misunderstanding on my part? I did some quick r...
Can I add this module to my current kernel, or do I need to get a newer kernel? I have been considering updating to a new 21 or 22 kernel... I forget what the version rules are for kernels. Something about odd and even numbers, but which is the important number? According to kernel.org , 2.6.22.1 is...
That's why he's a legend - because he is so dang smart. That "science vs. alchemy" paragraph explains things much better than any of ESR or RMS's papers do. He still seems a little unhappy with GPLv3. Saying that Windows "standardization" is "good for customers" is a bit interesting. But overall, I ...
I have a Verizon Wireless USB720 that I use for home internet service. It's a small device, like an oversized USB stick, and it has a USB connector. It works on my Mac, and it supposedly works in Windows, though I've never tried it. How can I get it to work in Linux? I tried Google searching for thi...
To put a closer on this topic, I deleted the current elvis-vi and symlinked it to vim. Worked like a charm. The difference was immediate, too - vim color-codes code by default, looks much nicer. And the backspace key doesn't drop characters into the 7th dimension.
thanks for comments. Seems like bluffing has become a major theme! i just meant that we all know nobody's 100% honest in a job interview (in the "the whole truth" sense at least), so with an industry where the job descriptions are often impenetrable, i sometimes wonder if the jobs behind them are i...
