It is not working correctly. When I restart inetd, should proftpd show up in the process list? It does not. Here are the relevant lines from inetd.conf # File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Server: ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd proftpd I would think that the tcpd would show up in the process li...

Killer, I commented the ftp lines in inetd.conf, hopefully that will make things cool. The only way I know to restart inetd is to restart the computer, since I have it set to run inetd at startup. I heard of something on the web called HPUP or something like that, but I'm not sure how to use that. E...

I changed the appropriate lines in inetd.conf, and when I tried to run proftpd, it complained that if you run from the command line, you have to use standalone. So I switched proftpd to standalone.

How do I find out if port 21 is even open?

Well, I want other machines in my building to have the ability to upload and download, so ftp serving is going to be the way to go. Accessing the machine from home will be convenient too. I read pretty much everything there was to say on the proftpd website, and tried out a bunch of different config...

Proftpd help

I'm trying to set up an ftp server on my Slackware 10 box in the office. I am having a pretty tough time figuring setup out. The documentation is pretty awful for ftp/server newbs like me - I've never setup a server in my life. All I really want to do is connect to the machine and upload/download fi...

I would be happy to mail you Fedora Core 1 on cd, for shipping costs only, if you don't have access to a cd burner. But to be honest, I am of the opinion that just about anything can be built for anything, if you have the knowledge. Read books and documentation, and even a relatively unfriendly dist...

Did you really reinstall? Did you tell the Suse installer to format your drives? Because it kinda seems like your programs are finding old files laying around. Running make on mplayer when it has already been made will be useless at best. Try running "make clean", and then "make" , "make install" ag...

I didn't see anything in your dmesg about your keyboard, don't know if it should be in there or not. My dmesg for FC2 says: serio: i8042 KBD port at 0x60,0x64 irq 1 input: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard on isa0060/serio0 Sorry, there isn't much that can be done at this point. Time to back up the pr0n!...

That doesn't help much. :( I bet your kernel is actually 2.4.x. Should be 2.6.x. Anyway, your Radeon is very screwed up, according to your event log post. Fix that first. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if your Radeon being screwy didn't have anything to do with XF86Config being screwy, which might...

My god, man, I cannot believe your computer even runs! Clearly, your graphics card is having serious issues, especially the 3-d drivers (appgart). Your sound card is also screwy. The only thing I saw that might affect your keyboard is this: linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-22...

According to this page from mplayer documentation: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/gui.html the only libraries you need are libpng, gtk-dev, and libpng-dev. Maybe if you gave us a list of what other random gtk libraries you installed? There may be some strange incompatibilities, or some extrane...

FC2 install superchoke

I am trying to help a friend install FC2 alongside winxp on his new Dell machine. Right when I click to use disk druid to partition, I get this error: An error has occured - no valid devices were found on which to create new file systems. Please check your hardware for the cause of this problem. Her...

Alright, the Cruzer is now mounting, and is totally hot-pluggable. I had assumed it would be sda1, but I guess the Zip drive at sda4 had taken over all of sda. So the Cruzer gets assigned sdb1. I removed kudzu from fstab. I have no problem mounting these devices by hand as needed. Your suggestion to...

Still having troubles mounting that Cruzer, but I think they are totally different problems. If the disk is formatted to vfat over in Windows, and then mounted by root as sda1 vfat, then the disk is accessible. Problem - the next time I restart, fstab has been wiped, the mount point is gone, and I'm...
