As a person who used to add rpms via command line religiously, let me just say this: Synaptic is the cat's meow. Honestly, I don't know how I survived without it. Synaptic is part of the apt process, and I don't know how well it works in Suse, but I guarantee the results are worth the five minutes i...

Hopefully this is not an example of things to come. It almost seems like Novell was paying lip service to open source, with no intention of backing it up. That would be a damn shame, and an unfortunate precedent for the Linux community. On a side note, I think it is going to take a lot of adjusting ...

This works:
http://www.bluethingy.com/linux/rh8menu.html
even tho it says rh8. You'll learn a lot about Gnome if you read this whole page top to bottom.

Thanks to

None of that makes much sense. Who came up with this scheme in the first place?

Since we're on the subject, I notice that there is a huge amount of stuff in my /dev folder. Most of it is stuff I would never even think to use. Can they be deleted?

PostScript...

Can anyone tell me: 1. Where can I find a PostScript engine - one that will read and write and manipulate PostScript for graphics? 2. What exactly is the license for PostScript - can I read and write it as I please, as long as I include proper credits? Futzing around with a project to build a qualit...

So, with the exception of win-formatted zip drives, the first scsi and/or usb device is sda1? If I added another scsi device, it would be sda2, right? Win-formatted zip drives are always sda4, in case anyone was curious.

Cruzer won't mount

Hey gang, I have this 256MB Flash drive, and I'm having troubles mounting in FC2 Linux. Here's the fstab entry: /dev/sda1 /mnt/cruzer auto noauto, kudzu, user, owner 0 0 The problem is that I normally use this drive with my Mac, and I recently formatted it with the Mac. When attempting to mount, I get ...

I'm not sure what Ogle is, but I do know that FC2 has no problems mounting a dvd into the folder /mnt/cdrom, using the fstab line for /dev/cdrom. I think referring to it as cdrom is just an outdated naming convention, and it doesn't seem to have any effect on the way the disc is read or handled.

Minor update:

Everything's cool. I have the normal version of Mozilla (1.6) and a nightly build (1.8a) both running perfectly. The new version of gaim (0.79) works great with both.

Thanks for the tips.

Ok, gaim is letting me copy and paste now, for some reason - don't know why it wasn't working before.

I download the nightly builds of Mozilla once a week, so I decided not to install it into the OS (from the FC1 install cds). Maybe that was a dumb thing to do, eh?

Maybe it should be, but it is not. I tried: /usr/local/mozilla/mozilla & /usr/local/mozilla/mozilla %s In both cases, if Mozilla is already open, it attempts to open a new instance, and gives an error message about how your profile is already being used. What I would like is to have it open in a new...

gaim configuration (Mozilla)

Hey, I use gaim in FC1, and I'm having a hard time viewing links that people send me. There is a browser configuration panel, which lets you choose between manual and gnome default. Gnome default is set to elinks, which I would rather not use. Is there a way to set Mozilla as the default? The other ...

Gotcha. I agree, it may have been the kudzu, now that I know what that does.

After following the instructions from that other site I mentioned, the guid is now set, and I added myself to the group.

In short, everything works ok now. Thanks.

I found a neat site that gave me some interesting info about how to mount vfat drives: http://www.userlocal.com/tips/fatmounting.php I followed his instructions, and the only thing I have to add is that 'groupad' is located in /usr/sbin on FC1, which might not be in your path. Hope this helps some p...
