This is the way it should work. I only found this out by "playing" with it. I know that the floppy and CD drive directories are persistant, and the computer will shut down normally with them in place. But since we do weekly backups of my court data files to thumbdrives, I had to find some way to sh...

USB thumbdrive umount problem FC3

Hi All, I have a new problem on two different FC3 computers. I have been using USB thumbdrives for a while on both machines, and they would mount automatically and unmount with a simple right-click on the icon. A couple of weeks ago, my court clerk called me to tell me that her computer crashed afte...

Thanks again Voidmain,

I changed the repository as you suggested and all was well.

Hi All, I'm still having problems with the ayo.freshrpms repository. Apt is warning me that there is no checksum information in the headers. Am I the only one still having these probelms, or is there still a problem with the repository? I checked the fedora-list and haven't seen anything posted ther...

Voidmain,

You're the man!!!

That was it. I just renamed /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.a to libglx.a.old and then ran ldconfig and as soon as I restarted X I was back up to 648 FPS in glxgears.

Once again, thanks!

nVIDIA 6629 fail to load GLX

Hi All, When I upgraded my kernel to 2.6.10-1.741_FC3, or some time thereafter, I lost my 3D. Since I don't really use my computer much for 3D apps, I'm not too sure when it happened, and when I first discovered it, I wasn't particularly worried. I did reinstall the NVIDIA....run package, but didn't...

Ah-ha! Thanks Voidmain! That's the answer. Although I have used "switchdesk kde" for my daughter's account on this machine to set her up with KDE, I have always used Gnome in my account. Since the files aren't created until a non-default WM is used for that account, I didn't have the files and was d...

Linux Frank,

Thanks,

That file does at least exist on my machine and does specify Gnome as the dektop environment . It would seem to be a global given its location. I thought that the ~/.xsession would have contained this information, but on my box that file doesn't exist.

Thanks,

Jim

Voidmain, Well, I am not a programmer or even much of a scripter..., I just do a bit of perl and I suck at that. But looking the script over, it looks like it refers to /usr/bin/switchdesk-helper, also a shell script. That script seems to point at ~/.xsession or to ~/,xinitrc and then sets up a ~/Xc...

Hey Worker201, Thanks for the prompt reply, but on my FC3 install, a ls-a .X* gives the following: [dishawjp@eunix ~]$ pwd /home/dishawjp [dishawjp@eunix ~]$ ls -a .X* .Xauthority [dishawjp@eunix ~]$ And a "man switchdesk" gives the following very useless info: [dishawjp@eunix ~]$ man switchdesk >nn...

switchdesk?

Hi All, Unlike most of my posts here, this should be a simple question to answer. When a user gives the command "switchdesk XXX" with XXX being kde, gnome or whatever, what file is modified to change the user's desktop to XXX? I did check the man page on switchdesk, but it provided no clues as to th...

I did a little more poking around, and perhaps some of the following will be helpful. First I brought up eth0 as usual: [dishawjp@eunix dishawjp]$ net Determining IP information for eth0... failed. Then looked to see if eth0 had actually come up: [dishawjp@eunix dishawjp]$ /sbin/ifconfig eth0 Link e...

This just keeps getting weirder... Your FC3 side seems to be doing this but your FC2 side hasn't actually renewed it's IP address since Christmas Eve. Is December 24th really the last last time you were able to use it? If you have used FC2 since that date then it appears you already had the problem ...

On both your FC2 and FC3 look at your /var/lib/dhcp/dhclient-*.leases file(s). Your interface name will be part of the file name. This contains your DHCP client lease info. What is contained in those files? For FC3, it's: [dishawjp@eunix dhcp]$ cat dhclient-eth0.leases lease { interface "eth0"; fix...

Hi Voidmain, Do you have another local machine that you can try and ping? No. My wife is having my "computer room" redone. I'm lucky to be able to find anything right now. Right now the only machine I have set up is this one, and that's in one of my daughters' bedrooms. When she gets back from colle...
