Hey Void - ditto that..

Installed it over the weekend and watched "the gladiator" and "time line"
really appreciate the effort in making the GUI.

It is a local machine by Mustek South Africa and was an insurance replacement for my previous one fried by lightning. Came pre-installed with m$ 2k - on that the fan worked the way I expected. Was removed fairly fast and replaced in turn with RH7.2, 7.3, 8, 9, FC1 and now FC3. As I never needed to o...

On all my machines I set it in the BIOS - and that seems to work.
Might not be available on very old versions.

Not yet been able to figure out how to stop the fan running all the time
on my laptop with FC3. It is only supposed to start running when the machine
gets hot.

Wanted to add a snide comment - but got sidetracked into reading all the latest "BOFH: Where the hell have you been?" o yes.... You buy a car - expecting the latest and greatest - and end up with an engine from circa 1980 and no tyres. Then you're forced to pay for the installation of the tyres and ...

Just my 2 cents worth. I had a problem with my sound on FC3 as well. On some of the programs the volume stayed full-out and on others..... nothing... had to change the volume physically on the speakers. Then found "aumix" and "xaumix" - a sound mixer with all the volumes on zero. Set the volume on 1...

hmmmm.... ditto Void. While getting the prefsbar for mozilla - I saw what my problem with firefox was as well... the prefbar I had is not compatible with firefox... Installing the latest - and it worked... (that was just to confirm what my problem was) But then, as I said - I'll stay with Mozilla fo...

yep - I agree.. The prefbar was one of the things I missed as well.. By the way - this is now viewed using Mozilla. For now - bye bye Firefox. Saying this - I reckon I'll stay with mozilla mail as well... at least I'm used to it. Just having a problem finding all the mozilla stuff on the install CDs.

Firefox bugs me

Eventually got the guts together and did a clean install of FC3 on my development machine (was FC1), (Except with the TNT / NVidia problem - which may be fixed), I am actually very happy with it.. BUT... Firefox??? Damn - it drives me nuts... The BackButton, right click and Back or the menu item "Go...

Yep, I agree Void. It is all about choice. Man I buy music CDs that come on multiple disks. With Linux - unless you're lazy - you can pick and choose only what you need to get something working right now. Want a server? no X - easy - thats what you install. Want an office or development environment ...

The other day I saw a guy that used to frequent my shop in '83... and he was then only 14 years old.... bloody hell and now all of a sudden he's 33 years old with 10 year old kids of his own... and he still said "hello uncle". Shaiiiiit I suddenlly realised how time really ...

In a similiar fashion - let me share my headaches. Have a small SMD mobo - 850mhz running only the server part of FC1. I use this as a fire-wall and the modems are connected to it. Only installed ipkungfu to share the internet connection. Last Friday got hit by lightning - which fried 2 of my machin...

Hmmm. Might not be exactly what you are looking for - but here goes. If you run jobs from the command line - take Voids' route by dropping them into the background and output the results to a log file. NB! remember to sent the stderr out as well ie. something like this cmdtorun > somelog 2>&1 This w...
