I'm trying to install VMWare on Slackware which uses a type of BSD init but when i run "vmware-install.pl" it asks for "the directory with the init directories rc0.d/ to rc6.d/" but i of course dont have those since i am not using sysV init. Is there some way i can fix this? Or is there anywhere wit...

i got the bashrc and bash_profile (copied from redhat... doesnt seem to have any special settings in it so it should be okay)... but what does it mean "Put the environment variable and its value into root's .bash_profile and you're all set"?

erm... i cant edit the .bash_profile to "Put the environment variable and its value into root's .bash_profile" because i dont have a .bash_profile

X programs from terminal

whenever i try to run an X program from terminal (openoffice installer to be exact) it says it cant connect to Xserver. I did "xhost +" to take off access restrictions completely, but it still doenst work. I am using Slackware, on konsole and "su -"'d as root.

no there is no index.html/php/foo but my root dir is configured not to have indexes (because i set it like that), and i wanted one directory to have an index.

i got it set up the way i like now anyway.

ohhhhh.....i see
so if i want only one directory with indexes i should make /var/www/indexdir/ (or i could make sure all my other directories have "index.html" of course)
