Re: Google rips off Linux GPL code for Android?

beg pardon? isn't that a little simplistic? it's a bit tiresome to have to answer party political questions like that but i will just say that i have always retained and reserved my own copy/publishing rights, so why anybody might get the idea i am against "intellectual property" whatever that nebul...

Better Out Than In

Hi folks, well i know i've hardly posted in here for years, and that there are only about three active users now, but hey, you're all nice active users, so what the heck, eh? I'm just popping in to give you a link to an album i am currently writing! It's a sort of challenge to see if i can write and...

Re: Fedora 12 running on Android

that's very clever. So it's like using a fedora "application/utilities" suite. I'm quite curious how the various details work (things like whether any executables are duplicated, and what the path is to decide which of two versions to use and so on), i guess the internet will have those details thou...

Re: What is "play"

"play" is a utility which plays uncompressed wav (and some other file types i just found out) files, and as above, is actually part of sox.

It will have been started by some program which was playing a wav file or stream (is my guess).

Re: Fedora 12 running on Android

this whole process sounds really simple actually.
So with regards to the fact you're not replacing the OS, that makes this a dual boot system, does it?

there should be some sort of law about publishing drivel like that! :-) Daily Pageviews 1,774,973 * * This is estimated data only, read our disclaimer so there are about five or six regular visitors to this site, yes? This means that on average each visitor provides 300,000 pageviews every day! Very...

Skype

Steve Ballmer and Tony Bates were on the news last night as i was eating my dinner. It was a sick display of mutual backslapping and it put me right off my pasta. :barf: However, what it did make me wonder is how this deal: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/05/10/microsoft_buys_skype1/ will affect l...

Open Source Bicycle Computing

True, but odd.

I admit, it doesn't say it runs linux, but it says it's fully open source, i think the chances are it's some linux or other.
Anyway, yeah, lots of practical applications for this one...

Re: Google rips off Linux GPL code for Android?

still, there are some good points being made there about having cake on one hand and eating it on the other, and it'd be good to see some legal precedents so these sorts of arguments don't crop up over and over again.

Re: Ubuntu destroyed my youth.

Nobody wants to remember 60,000 commands and variables to run everything from the terminal. So some things are faster that way, but most aren't because humans are visual creatures, most of us prefer to actually see what we're doing in a non text manner because it's how our brains are hard wired. i ...

Re: Lucid Lynx

here's something, you know when you get ubuntu, there's no root password? first thing i usually do is assign a password to root, and in the past i think you did this by going: $ sudo passwd root however i tried this in Ubuntu 10 and they have (sensibly, from their point of view i suppose) stopped yo...

Re: Ubuntu destroyed my youth.

i've got to agree with void here. i *want* a distro that works. one thing i hated about ms windows was the constant unfixable problems. I always felt with linux/GNU systems that at least you had a chance to fix the problems, but more recently this has proven not to be the case (with fedora and mandr...
