I cannot comment on OS X. My company ceased Mac Development from OS 9. Basically they can't keep up with modern computers and so assume that the most prevalent is the one to develop for. Never mind that over 50% of our customer base has failed to order in years. Go figure, I know those customers are...

It gives Clues.

So my test station, which is a Mac locked up. No error messages, nothing to give any slight hint that something was going wrong. Nothing, nada, zip, zero. Now this happens once every three to six months, and sometimes becomes a rash for two or three days. As it is a hardware test system I am quite i...

Doesn't Debian (and therefore Ubuntu) use x.org not xfree86? Do you have a shipped 4.10 cd, or have you downloaded a current snapshot can you do that with ubuntu? Can you log in in text mode okay? Have you tried an apt-get dist-upgrade on your system. The 4.10 release is coming to its end. Is the ca...

Okay here is some more. http://voidmain.is-a-geek.net/man/?parameter=coreutils&mode=info This is a huge file and section 22 is where the su command (amongst others) is detailed. This is actually a useful document, and I think after looking it over that this is a basic summary of commands necessary f...

Void has mentioned this a few times, although I have not found it on a search, yet. I understand, from memory, that a login shell has absolute paths for where to search for 'commands'. User shells have a different path, which limits where they automatically look for commands. you can use the normal ...

I'm sure void will be along to make things really clear. But it is essentially to do with the paths available to your shell. Try login in as root from your shell with the command $ su - Note the space and the dash after the normal su command. Enter your password as requested. http://voidmain.is-a-ge...

And yes, I was correct. I now have the DVD working properly under my Linux system. Must remeber to burn copies in DVD-R. Well I learnt a lot from this. Including the fact that Linux is still the most adaptable, flexible and damn good OS anywhere.

Yup, cheers and everything. Goggles is really good, and it got me out of the DVD hole of ogle_gui not working. I would strongly suggest you try and get it into the repostiories. I know Dag Wiers was posting to the RH developers list to see if they could do something with the Ogle Gui, as the develop...

Nice links. By browsing them and a lot more stuff, I think I have narrowed down the exact problem. My DVD drive was I believe manufactured before the DVD+R spec was out. I do not think my DVD player can read DVD+ formats (and I'm suspicious that it has problems with DVD- as well but that will soon b...

I'm using FC2. I was doing some research, and by all accounts DVD recording capability is really a little screwed up right now. Apparently the guy who wrote cdrecord sells a DVD compatible version which is proprietary, so someone has taken to updating cdrecord with DVD capability. There are also sev...

gnome default login gone

Hi All, Just to let you know, I updated my system and installed some new packages (DVDrecord was the one I think) that called for lots of dependacies. My problem was I started to get problems viewing my home directory in gnome. I logged out to let another user on and never got back in under gnome, U...

I know speed plays an issue in older optical drives. I know this only from experience with CDs, I have assumed DVDs have the same issue. I believe that is a main part of this issue. The drive it was burnt on is super fast in comparison to my aging Matsui (or whatever it is). So I need to buy a burne...

Ha Ha. Well my DVD player is probably PAL as I brought it in the UK, but I did not think this was an issue as my DVDs are all US brought and paid (and monitors are not country specific in terms of their output I thought). and work just fine on this here PC. But it is possible that my DVD is old and ...
