Mandrake does the same thing. It never did on my older system, with the exact same installation. Seems to be something initiated depending on the specs of the system. Faster processor, etc. I would also like to know what program is doing this.

Because I can keep on using it.

Even my 10 year old laptop can connect to the net, but not my friends inherited Mac, oh no. Can't even find a browser that works on OS 9. IE, Netscape, Opera, Mozilla, Safari (Apples own), none of these work. And as a result she has gone back to M$ Windows POS, because whilst it is slow, buggy, unre...

I have had some bad luck with Linksys customer service, and they have never answered e-mails about Linux compatability, so now they mention in the advertising that their products run Linux this seemed like news to me. So I thought maybe Cisco were having a positive effect. Anyway cheers, I think a f...

USB Flash Drives

Has anyone had any experiences with this stuff Flash Memory - USB Newegg.com Good/Bad/Ugly? I'm thinking it might be a great way to keep files with you, and use it as a backup device. Easy use for non-technical people. What is really good is some of the companies selling this stuff now state catagor...

Thanks Void, that is so much clearer than the description I had, which rabbited on for about 10 pages about permissions, and never gave a summary statement or anything, and left me feeling rather lost. Now I understand that some of the description makes more sense.

From rpmfind.net
The bind-chroot packages runs the DNS server daemon under the non-root user and group and in the chroot()ed directory.
Does not look like you need it unless you need someone else to have control of Bind without root access. Although I'm no expert.

Kinda pleased you didn't. I was going crazy by the end of yesterday, what with /. lame affairs, freshmeat and their OH SO FUNNY ROT13 coding, and numerous other really really bad tech site gags. It was very very annoying. I love a good gag but yesterday seems the worst I can remember, hell even the ...

I think install Grub, set the default to that other OS, and tell your girlfriend that when that screen is visible leave it alone and Windows will come up. I'd give you more specifics on doing this, but I don't have Fedora, and have not dual booted with M$ware in years, and use Lilo. However google w...

:?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: What is bizzare? If one has to have an object that one does not really like (such as a computer) it makes sense to make it look good. It is pretty hard to disguise a computer, so one should make it look good. For example I refused to get a biege case for something I h...

Computer casing question / help

Okay, what I need is a computer case (ATX / Mid-ATX) that looks a little like a frog. I am building someone a computer. This person has no particular liking of computers, and could not care what I do with it, as long as it looks nice in her home office. Is there a company that makes (sleeves?) speci...

If you can find out what motherboard it is, just head to their website and get the latest version of the bios for that board. Reflash it as they say, and you should be good to go. Be very careful.

Hell if it was worth it you could have it for the cost of shipping, but it ain't. Check out ebays computer section, there are a lot of Aussie sellers on there and you can pick up some nice deals if you have low requirements. Just watch out there are a lot of items that suddenly become no deal at all...

You are moaning about 4 CDs. Just wait until Debian is finally released that is planned for 13 CDs. It is getting out of hand, and it is actually getting to the point that it might start being cheaper to just buy the OS when it is released. But then we are as much to blame as the Distros. How many t...
